It is time convinced Christians stopped trying to reconcile their spiritual beliefs with the modern age and understood that if one thing comes clearly through every account we have of Jesus' teaching, it is that His followers are not urged to accomodate themselves to their age, but to the mind of God. Christianity is not supposed to feel 'natural...'inclusive' or 'sensible'. Christianity is inching its way up a philosophical cul-de-sac. The Church stands for revealed truth and divine inspiration or it stands for nothing.

God's sovereignty... He closes China and lets communism rampage through the land. He promotes a common language. He uses communism to deal with the challenge of rampant idolatry and then opens the door again. The next thing we hear is that throughout China there are millions of Christians.

In Philippians Paul tells us as Christians to, "Do all things without grumbling or disputing..." Often we wonder how to shine as a light in the world and here is one way that is very clear. We are in the midst of a world that complains all the time. Sadly the world seems to complain about every situation. If it has been a fine week for weather we hear a complaint about how it is bound to rain because the weekend is coming! People complain about the buses and trains being late, about the way the office is run, about the management, about people. We constantly hear this dull, grating noise of complaint and ingratitude. The Church shines as a light in the world, not only by proclaiming Jesus in the streets, but by doing all things without grumbling and complaining. This is enough to make you shine today! Remember to keep shining! Encourage one another all the time - husbands, wives and parents. We must stop one another in our tracks and say, "Remember you're a Christian! Remember to do all things without grumbling or complaining!"... There are two languages in the world: the language of grumbling and the language of thanksgiving, and there are some who live in between and can speak both. Don't live on the border learning a foreign language - be a true native of Zion!

Pastor Bill Hybels, in his book Courageous Leadership, says that earlier in his ministry he didn't rank the need for great chemistry with his teammates very highly. But after many years of experience, he became "a convert to the great doctrine of chemistry". He has concluded that personality and temperament, blending with other team members and with him, represents one of the top factors in building a great team.

People like me are vulnerable in a society that disregards the rights of the weak, the infirmed, the unseen, and the very, very small. I don’t want to live in a world where the bio-tech industry sets the moral agenda.

"Preach the Word" Buy from www.amazon.co.uk or www.amazon.com
Philip Greenslade (Ed. Greg Haslam)
Lloyd Jnes quoting revivalist Jonathan Edwards to this effect, who had said "the main benefit obtained by preaching is the impression made upon the mind at the time, and not by an effect that arises afterwards by remembrance of what was delivered." Edwards maintained that the greatest benefit of preaching was the impact it had on the person at the time when they heard it, as opposed to looking back ofver notes in order to recall what had been said. People will most often be ale to recall specific events if they have strong emotions attached to them. Likewise, when people think back to how they felt when someone preached a powerful word, then that message has another opportunity to work in them for transformation.

If people don't like you, they won't follow you. There is something about that truth that bugs most leaders. We think: "wait a minute - I'm called by God on a mission for God, why does it matter if people like me?" Because it does and always will. It's not about a popularity contest or a beauty pageant. It's all about whether or not the people truly believe that you love and care about them. It's not really even about your personality. Some leaders are more "warm and fuzzy" others are more "button-down and business." That doesn't matter. What people really want to know is if you care. Your ability to connect, appreciate and enjoy people is huge. How do you evaluate yourself here? Do people like you? Do they migrate toward you? Are you able to "juggle" many relationships with different kinds of people? Do you make new friends easily?
