That is why I urge you to intercede for your children and to pray that they will not get out of the perfect will of God for their lives. While your children are young, ask God to reveal His plans for their futures in order that you can train them up in the way they should go. Treasure in your heart those things the Lord speaks to you about each child and claim God\'s wisdom daily in guiding and training your children.

Given the choice, most churches will choose their traditions over their children every time. The result is that over time children leave the church, creating a crisis later of how to get the younger generation back

In his letter to a predominantly Gentile church in Ephesus Paul applies the promise of the inheritance of the land specifically to Gentile children of Christian believers who are obedient. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honour your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." Ephesians 6:1-3 The fifth commandment promised that obedient children would live long on the land the Lord God was giving them. Now Paul applies the same promise to the children of Christian parents living 700-800 miles from the land of the Bible. These children of Gentile and Jewish Christians who submit willingly to the authority of their parents will, Paul promises, enjoy long life on the ea

John Ortberg talks about confession in language most of us can relate to. Some years ago, we traded in my old Volkswagen Super Beetle for our first piece of new furniture: a mauve sofa. It was roughly the shade of Pepto-Bismol, but because it represented to us a substantial investment, we thought "mauve" sounded better. The man at the furniture store warned us not to get it when he found out we had small children. "You don't want a mauve sofa," had advised. "Get something the color of dirt." But we had the naïve optimism of you parenthood. "We know how to handle our children," we said. "Give us the mauve sofa." From that moment on, we all knew clearly the number one rule in the house. Don't sit on the mauve sofa. Don't touch the mauve sofa. Don't play around the mauve sofa. Don’t eat on,breathe on, look at, or think about the mauve sofa. Remember the forbidden tree in the Garden of Eden.? "On every other chair in the house you may freely sit, but upon this sofa, the mauve sofa, you may not sit, for in the day you sit thereupon, you shall surely die." Then came The Fall. One day there appeared on the mauve sofa a stain. A red stain. A red jelly stain. So my wife, who had chosen the mauve sofa and adored it, lined up our three children in front of it: Laura, age four, and Malory, two and a half, and Johnny, six months. "Do you see that children?" she asked. "That's a stain. A red stain. A red jelly stain. The man at the sofa store says it is not coming out. Not forever. Do you know how long forever is children? That's how long we're going to stand here until one of you tells me who put the stain on the mauve sofa."

The church of Jesus Christ therefore brings together in a unity of faith and love his children under the old and new covenants, Jews and Gentiles who trust and believe in Jesus, the one looking forward, the other looking back to his first coming and upward to his second.

Something I have to remind myself of constantly is that people in our churches have real lives. You heard it here - engagements other than church. They have challenging jobs, children to raise, lawns to mow, and bills to pay. Because of all these daily responsibilities, the vision we poured into them on Sunday begins to drain out of them sooner than we think.

A complementarian Church must focus intently on raising up men, particularly young men, to be responsible, loving leaders in their families and churches like Jesus and unlike Adam. Simply on of the kindest things we can do for women and children is to raise up men who are good Christians, husbands, fathers and Christian brothers.

Without this doctrine, we will always be incompletely initiated into the kingdom of God. We will enjoy the foundational blessing of the gospel without experiencing its highest blessing. We will believe that we are born again and that we are children of God, but we will lack the actual experience of sonship and daughter- hood that enables us to cultivate a lifelong relationship of intimacy with our Father in heaven. This should not be allowed to go on any longer, otherwise there will always be a tendency for us to live as slaves rather than sons.

Youth is the time when our passions are strongest and like unruly children, cry most loudly for indulgence. Youth is the time when we have generally our most health and strength: death seems far away, and to enjoy ourselves in this life seems to be everything... "I serve lusts and pleasures:" that is the true answer many a young man should give, if asked, "Whose Servant are you?"
